Announcing the Guam Freebirth Project: Stories of Strength and Trust from Families in Guam
Hey, amazing moms and friends!
I’m so excited to announce a project that’s been brewing in my heart and mind for a while now: The Guam Freebirth Project. This journey is going to be a celebration of the strength, resilience, and unique choices that families in Guam make when it comes to birthing their babies.
As a mom who believes deeply in the beauty of birth and our innate strength, I’ve always felt drawn to capture the raw, authentic stories of families who choose freebirth. The Guam Freebirth Project is my way of doing just that—bringing together stories from families right here on our beautiful island who’ve experienced this powerful journey. Over the next two years, I’ll be meeting with families, capturing their stories, and piecing together a documentary-style ebook that dives deep into the experiences, emotions, and wisdom behind each freebirth.
Why The Guam Freebirth Project?
So why this project? Why now? Freebirth is such a personal, powerful choice that connects back to trusting ourselves, our bodies, and the birth process itself. Each family I hope to connect with has their own story, their own reasons, and their own version of strength that I think can inspire other moms, whether or not freebirth is their chosen path. I want to honor those journeys and capture the beauty and challenges of birthing on our own terms.
What to Expect
For The Guam Freebirth Project, I’ll be reaching out to families across Guam, and each story will be shared with the utmost care and respect. Some families may want to remain anonymous, while others may want to share more openly—and either way, I’ll work to capture the heart of their experiences. My goal is to keep the focus on the storytelling and the artistry of capturing each family’s unique journey.
I’ll also be taking photos to accompany these stories, capturing the moments that make Guam such a special place to birth. Island landscapes, personal scenes, and intimate moments will all help bring these stories to life. Think of it as a blend of storytelling and visual art—a love letter to family, birth, and Guam.
Who We’re Looking For
If you’re a family here in Guam who has chosen freebirth, or if you know someone who has, I would love to connect. Ideal participants might be families like ours—young couples, families with a few little ones, or anyone who feels this experience is one they’re ready to share.
If you’ve freebirthed in Guam at any point in time, I’d love for you to reach out! This project is open to anyone who has chosen freebirth on our island, whether your birth happened recently or years ago. Even if you’ve freebirthed elsewhere, I’d still love to hear your story—every experience is unique and valuable. However, for this project, I’ll be focusing specifically on families who have freebirthed here in Guam to create a collection that’s truly rooted in our local experiences.
Anonymity is always an option, and I’ll work with each family’s comfort level. Thank you for being open to sharing your journey!
